Folk Festival Východná
In the most eastern villages of Liptov takes the annual folk festival place. Every year since 1955 on the begin of July you can watch traditional songs and dances from Slovakia and other countries.
Liptov Night Life
The best night life in Liptov you can enjoy in Liptovský Mikuláš. Disco clubs have usually open already since late afternoon, even the real party starts only after 10 PM. Clubs get very crowded at weekends at that time and it lasts until 2 AM. Best days to visit the dance floors are Friday and Saturday, the Wednesday and Thursday night are also not bad.
Some good clubs are also located in Ružomberok.
Liptov Pubs
Typical local drinks includes slivovica (made of plumbs) and borovicka (made of junipers). Do not worry, you can find good Slovak and international draft beer in allmost every pub in Liptov. The opening hours are usually ending between 10 PM and 12 PM.
Liptov Gastronomy
Liptov would not be complete without mentioning "bryndza" - local sheep cheese with sour-piquant taste. In German speaking countries it is known under name Liptauer (what says originated in Liptov). The connoisseurs of bryndza distinguish the light spring bryndza and autumn bryndza with more expressive taste. Bryndzove halusky (potato dumplings (similar to Italian gnocchi) with bryndza) are the national dish of Slovakia. The hard life and modesty of previous generations is well symbolised in this simple, cheap and nice dish.
